.Install a security camera system with at least one camera facing your front door and one facing your front yard/driveway and street.
.Install motion-activated lighting in your yard.
.Lock up any tools in a shed or garage.
.If you have bought electrical appliances, cut the boxes into pieces before recycling as boxes left outside your home can let burglars know what is new in your home.
.Get to know your neighbours – know who is supposed to live there and look after each other. They will be more inclined to look after your place if you know them.
.For sliding doors use a piece of doweling when you go out or when going to bed, the doweling will stop the door from sliding open from the outside yet still allow you to remove it when necessary.
.Leave lights on when you go out or better still, install an automatic timer for internal lighting.
.For property, have them engraved or marked with personal identification so they are harder for thieves to sell, an invisible marker is best for this job.
